Natalie Anderson takes part in the Hope Walk
Emmerdale beauty Natalie Anderson will be taking part in the Leeds-Bradford Hope Walk this coming Sunday (13th May) in support of the Mytubular Trust - a children's charity that's close to her heart as a family friend suffers with the condition; Mytubular Myopathy.
Pregnant Natalie, who plays feisty Alicia Gallagher, will set off from the Railway Hotel, Calverley Bridge, Rodley, at 10.30am and walk along the canal towpath to Apperley Bridge and back – approximately five miles along the picturesque Leeds-Liverpool canal towpath.
Mytubular Myopathy is a rare and devastating muscle weakness, affecting mainly boys from birth. Affected babies and children are contantly at risk of death, and this is usually from complications gained through coughs and colds, which they are simply too weak to recover from. Shockingly, most do not pass their childhood years.
Brilliantly, there has been new breakthrough research that has come to light, that means there is real hope of finding a cure. The problem remains in having the available funds to aid the research into the rarer conditions. The trust's goal is to help fund research to find a treatment or even better a cure for Myotubular Myopathy, which will provide children with a real chance of living.
